The Inktober prompt for today is “Boots.”
They sell their wares. Their car boots open wide for all to peek inside.
The walkers leer. They peek and stare. They touch and hold the goods the wanderers have brought.
These boots, holding secrets, bared.
“Car Boot Sale” brings them all, the walkers and wanderers together. Some come to imagine, some to sell, and some to add to their own collections of treasure.
And, as the dusty paths become solid from trampling, the citrus colours of the cars, the wares, the people, and their pets merge. The dusty smell of bargain and hope combines with the comfort of the long-winded conversation of old friends sitting in the same place for a hot day. Newcomers with open minds and hearts ask questions, and eyes sparkle at the thought of long-lost pieces finding their way into their homes and hearts.
The boots, once loaded and heavy, become lighter for the lucky ones. As dusk approaches, weariness sets in. As the last of the walkers make their way to their own cars, the wanderers tenderly set their goods to rest until the next time.
Boots close, and the lot is left with a few tracks in the sand.
