The Inkober prompt for today is “Roam.”
Do you ever allow your mind to just… roam? I sometimes feel like the freedom to mind-roam is squashed out of us as we grow up… Maybe it’s the school system, which leads to the tertiary education system, which leads to the work system, but there doesn’t seem to be much room for roaming as an adult.
Funnily enough, though, allowing your mind to wander can lead to some of your deepest and most profound breakthroughs.
Have you ever wondered why you have some of your best ideas in the shower? It’s because your mind has been given a break from the constant barrage of input and stimulus and demand for just a few minutes.
By giving your brain a break for the length of a shower and relaxing as you take care of a basic human need, hygiene, you allow your brain waves to slip from alpha to beta. It’s there that the magic of creativity often happens.
If you can come up with so much from such a short “roam”, imagine how much more you could do if you allowed yourself regular, more substantial mind-wanderings!
So, I say to hell with the confines of adult bore! Let your mind roam at least a few times a week! Perhaps all you need for your next big break is little adventure, and maybe what this world needs is a few more people who are willing to go on them.
