Nomadic (Inktober Day 10)

The prompt for today is “Nomadic”

The great thing about being a freelancer is that you can be somewhat nomadic. If you work online, you understand.

Working in different locations can dramatically help the writing process when you are a writer, but there is also a downside to moving around.

When I became a (mostly) full-time work-from-homer, I suddenly found myself unable to get started with my work. I missed the desk, chair, and room I had always sat at and in. I missed the ambient sounds and even the interruptions I had grown accustomed to while working. The sudden change felt more like being untethered and uprooted than freedom.

It took me a long while to find my feet again and discover new workspaces that felt productive and comfortable.

So, while the nomadic lifestyle is amazing for the creative juices, it does perhaps need to be experienced on a long lead—at least for me. Give me the freedom within the safety of my routine.

Which do you prefer? Working in the same place every day, or moving around?
