Grunge (Inktober Day 16)

Today’s prompt is “Grunge”.

When I was about 15 years old, I discovered grunge music. It was 1996, and I decided to start a band.

The fact that I was a classically trained violinist and recorder player didn’t dampen my enthusiasm. I got hold of a VHS of a bunch of MTV Unplugged artists and watched it, religiously, every Saturday morning while stretching after ballet class.

(Yes, I know exactly what you’re thinking… a violin and recorder-playing ballerina starting a grunge band… impossible!)

But when you’re 15 going on 16, anything is possible. I put ads out on the radio and auditioned musicians. I put together a band and together, we made really awesome music.

More importantly, those months and years formed a large part of who I became and who I am today.

I guess you could say that Grunge gave me grit! (ha!)

It’s been noted that the music you listen to as a teenager and young adult will stay your favorite for the rest of your life. It’s because it’s the soundtrack to becoming yourself.

Imagine how much stronger the connection is when it’s you who is creating that music!

So, my question for YOU is: What music did you listen to as a teenager or young adult, and how has it influenced your business life?
