I love Christmas.
It was always a super special event for my family as I was growing up, and now it’s something I love celebrating with my own family.
To be completely honest, the experience has very little to do with religion for me, though. It’s more about family, spending time together, slowing down, working hard and keeping secrets to put smiles on loved ones’ faces.
My twins are at an age where they can get really excited for upcoming events, so I use that to the full! Themed crafts, baking, music, countdowns, clothes, you name it, this creative spark is fanned to a huge bonfire over special holidays.
Something I do hope to pass down to my girls is also a love of reading and literature and the holidays are a great time to create lovely, cozy traditions around books.
My absolute favorite is Tolkien’s Letters from Father Christmas. It’s a collection of gorgeous letters he wrote from Father Christmas and a polar bear, to his children. They have been beautifully illustrated by Tolkien himself and span a few years, so there is so much to read and enjoy. My girls are still a little young to really appreciate it, but every year it goes on the coffee table and my beside table and is a Christmas staple.
For younger readers, there are so many Christmas books out there. We have a stunning one with some illustrated carols inside, and it came with a CD of the same carols too. Have a look around and you will find something special for you and your family to enjoy.
Tradition is important, and creating a tradition of reading and loving books will be a lasting and happy legacy to leave.
