I’m sure we’ve all heard the new Meghan Trainor Song on repeat by now, right? (and, you’re welcome for the earworm!! LOL) After listening to the lyrics for the billionth time, I realized that, besides being super catchy, “Made You Look” holds something a little more valuable than an awesome beat.
Hidden within the self-loving optimism of the lyrics are some pretty cool marketing secrets. Being the generous soul that I am, I thought I’d share them with you.
Let’s see if we can use Gucci and Vuitton to revolutionize the face of marketing in 2023 using these hidden tips:
1. Always put your best foot forward, but know that your worth comes from within. Meghan may be singing about wearing designer labels, but the song’s moral is that she looks good in anything or nothing. The same goes for marketing. You can go all-out with the bells and whistles of marketing, but your core message should stay solid and true. That is what will draw the right customers to your business.
2. Ooze confidence. Know that your services are helping to solve a problem for the right audience. You do not need to beg for support. You keep on walking, and the right people will walk with you.
3. Your unique selling point is just that. Unique. Focus on what makes you different. “They don’t make a lot of what you got” so celebrate what makes you stand out from the crowd. In marketing, it can be tempting to copy what makes other businesses a success or to jump on every trend. In the long run, though, if you stay true to your unique selling point, your chances of ongoing success will be more solid.
4. Do what you can to market to new audiences, but ensure you provide a quality product or service. That 14-karat cake Meghan sings about is all about quality. Part of marketing is keeping your existing customers with quality service. Go all the way to ensure your loyal fans… er… customers are kept happy and your business will thrive in good times and bad.
5. Don’t be afraid to stand out. The song is about turning heads in designer labels and in a hoodie with messy hair. Make an impact in your day-to-day marketing and business activity and make a difference for your business. You can make waves with loud and proud promotions, paid marketing deals, and organic posts about daily news and events. Every bit of marketing you put out there is valuable and should be treated as such.
