My Most Precious Piece

This is possibly one of the most precious editing/rewriting jobs I will ever do.

My godmother is 95 years old. She lives in Italy and has just been moved into an old-age home… against her will. The other day, I was surprised with a package at the post office.

In it, this manuscript. It’s the true story of a part of her life that she wants me to look at and shape into a book.

I’m speechless. I’m left without words… which is not good for a writer… but honestly, I am so honored. As I delicately page through this chapter of her history, I am flooded with images of her, clear as if I was standing with her, drenched and cold, shaking with fear, glowing with love, radiating righteousness.

My only hope is that I will make her proud, and do her work justice. My precious piece. Timeless, limitless awesomeness strung together, waiting for me and calling me to piece together, sentence by glorious sentence.
